What is a TEAM of INTEGRITY?
Consider that there is the “face” of the team… What they show externally to the world and to each other
And there is the “heart and soul" of a team… The internal conversation of each team member that informs whether things are “right or wrong” with the team…whether they personally are valued and known, whether they are clear about direction, vision, purpose and who will do what and when, and the confidence they have that it is ok to tell the truth because trust has been established and has been shown to be a value through the synchronized words and actions of the team members and leader.
“The supreme quality for leadership is unquestionably integrity. Without it, no real success is possible, no matter whether it’s on . . . a football field, in an army or in an office.”
– Dwight D. Eisenhower, 34th U. S. president
The ultimate goal for a “Team of Integrity” is that people are able to be authentic to their true selves; and they are in alignment with the team’s shared defined values. They are able to share honestly and openly with confidence that what they say will be acknowledged and thoughtfully considered. They understand that the team will collaboratively work and achieve greater outcomes because of their collective experience, skills, and knowledge that is shared for the benefit and acknowledgement of all.
At Connections leadership we custom design team workshops that are just right for the current fitness of your team, and help you move forward one step at a time to a high performing team that appreciates the honesty in conversations, works collaboratively together to get the best results, and individually are able to contribute their best efforts because things are "right with the team". We guide you to understand the importance of continually having conversations to ensure that every one is on the same page and there is not any discord in the environment that is detracting from the health of the team.
A typical customized team session is one to two days in length and is held away from the workplace so that people are not distracted. The design may encompass a focus on the strategy and current performance of the team and the processes used by the team as well as energiziing activities that are designed to build camaraderie among team members and knowledge of who they are and what's important to them so that they can collaborate more effectively when they are working together. Important components are FUN and ENERGY and LEARNING THROUGH EXPERIENTIAL ACTIVITIES that leave the team with a sense of well being and connection. We have found that there is "magic in a team laughing and having fun together"...learning takes place naturally and the bonds that are formed are heartfelt.
And the emphasis on TEAM is STEP by STEP...this is a continual process and depends upon the stage of the team's life cycle. It is not a "one off" event where the leader can check the box and say that they have completed that part of building the team as the life of a team is dynamic. Every time there is a change, there is an opportunity to get the team together and build deeper bonds through conversation...new team members, new direction, checking in on performance, building deeper knowledge of team capacity and deeper levels of relationship...are all reasons to continue the team building process.
THE BEST TEAMS AND LEADERS..see team building as part of their culture, and at the heart of this discussion is the fact that THE Tool of TEAMS is COMMUNICATION...it's the only difference between doing something yourself and involving other people and IT IS THE KEY TO A TEAM'S SUCCESS. The quality of team conversations equals the quality of the work that a team is able to do collaboratvely.

There is hardly anything more powerful than a TEAM that is able and willing to thoughtfully and effectively resolve the friction and conflict that is inevitable when people are working together. Learning how to have difficult conversations in a healthy way builds a team's integrity, and is especially necessary If your team is experiencing "storming" or conflict. Contact us to learn how your team could benefit from our workshop "Turning Difficult Conversations into Healthy Dialogues".
Another team building opportunity is learning more about yourself and each other by doing the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and having a session to review the model, debrief learnings, and consider how your differences add value to the team as well as gives you new ideas as to how to communicate with each other most effectively.
